Internet of Things

“The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.”

The world today is increasingly becoming IoT-based; In the near future, even the least boring tasks are expected to be automated and IoT based.

The club will provide a platform for us to explore this aspect of techology, by ofcourse simplifying it to its basic form

We will build a few IoT-based systems some for fun/learning and some for a practical purpose. E.g, is the anticipated IoT system for library book management and checkout.

Data science

Data science is a field that combines different approaches to extract meaningful insights from data, your EE or IA involving data is a basic example of data science. A more 'practical' example is how MR. ZuckZuck uses your browsing history and your instagram activity data to predict what you are likely to purchase, that is Data Science

The world is a new Gold rush (more like Data rush); If you don't know, at some point the school have paid for you to access some data. To keep it short, there are alot of valuable data around us(in our campus) from which we can't get the valuable insights because we don't harness the datum.

As part of the club activity we will learn to use sensors to collect useful real time data around the campus; E.g, Soil moisture in the garden, relative energy consumption in the houses, avarage number of people in the mensa in a given day/meal e.t.c . This data can be used to extract useful insights which might pave a way for optimal opeting ways or just for a potential EE (J.K or Am I?)

Fun

A wise man from house 9 once said, "learning is incomplete if fun is not accompanied". The club takes this seriously, and so having fun will be a default in the club to not only keep up the motivation but also the creativity levels. On weekly basis we will create a system or a program just for the sake of fun, an example can be a bot that send jokes to the RBC groupchat 24/7 or a simply the most useless system in the human history.

We will also explore the aesthetics of technology, creating visually or sensory appealing/interactive stuff and even more, unlimited possibilies

Opportunities for
Highschool students

Regeneron winner 2021

In the club, we shall take time to inform each other about potential opportunities available to the high school students, this is not only limited to STEM-RELATED opportunities; Scholarships, Research Opportunities, Summer camps and all that. A few have been listed

The Summer STEM Institute (SSI)

The Summer STEM Institute (SSI) is a six week virtual summer program from June 19 to August 1, 2022. SSI is an international program that provides academically talented and highly motivated students the opportunity to learn through a data science and research bootcamp, a Masterclass lecture series, weekend challenges, and a mentored research project

Davidson Fellowship Scholarship

Applications for the Davidson Fellowship Scholarship are now open, and we encourage interested students to get started on the application as soon as possible. The Davidson Fellowship offers $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000 scholarships. To learn more about the scholarship opportunities and application information, visit the fellowship website here.

EngineerGirl Writing Contest

The EngineerGirl Writing Contest is now open and accepting submissions, and the contest is a great opportunity for those interested in both the humanities and STEM! This year's theme is to "write an informative essay about how engineering can help humanity meet one of the Sustainable Development Goals." For more information, visit the EngineerGirl website here.

MIT Think

MIT Think is a "science, research, and innovation program for high school students." Selected finalists receive weekly mentorship meetings with THINK team members and are also provided up to $1,000 in funding to implement their project. Finalists are also invited to an all-expense paid trip to MIT's campus. Learn more about the contest here.

Clean Tech Competition

Registration for the Clean Tech Competition is now open! The competition is a "unique, worldwide research and design challenge for pre-college youth," and students have the opportunity to submit their ideas for innovations that can benefit the environment. To learn more about the challenge, visit their website here.

The Science Ambassador Scholarship

Applications are now open for The Science Ambassador Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship for women interested in pursuing STEM. To apply, you must create a 3-minute video of yourself explaining a topic in STEM that you are passionate about. You can check out examples of previous winning videos here. To learn more about the scholarship and apply, visit The Science Ambassador Scholarship website here!
